Combination Lock

Combination Lock

This is a model of a sophisticated combination lock, the kind found on bank vaults or high-quality home safes with non-electronic combination locks. Its design makes it significantly harder to pick than a typical combination padlock.

The model is made entirely of clear acrylic, some of it colored to illustrate the different functional parts. Watch the video below to see a view from behind, which lets you see exactly how the "gates" in the tumblers (code wheels) are all brought into alignment with the "fence" when the combination is entered correctly. A final turn of the dial past zero engages a mechanism that pulls back the bolt, opening the lock.

The kit includes a pair of paper blinds that block your view from the front, in case you want to try your hand at picking the lock. (Good luck with that! These locks are very difficult to pick, though some experts can do it in a matter of minutes.)

Your model will arrive attractively packaged with all the necessary parts (including a screwdriver and wrench). The kit screws together in about 45-60 minutes, and does not require any special model-building skills. A detailed, step-by-step assembly video is available on our instructions page.
