Combination Lock
This is a model of a sophisticated combination lock, the kind found on bank vaults or high-quality home safes with non-electronic combination locks. Its design makes it significantly harder to pick than a typical combination padlock.
The model is made entirely of clear acrylic, some of it colored to illustrate the different functional parts. Watch the video below to see a view from behind, which lets you see exactly how the "gates" in the tumblers (code wheels) are all brought into alignment with the "fence" when the combination is entered correctly. A final turn of the dial past zero engages a mechanism that pulls back the bolt, opening the lock.
